Navy Method Measurements
- Neck: Measure just below the larynx with tape sloping downward to the front
- Waist: At the narrowest point for men, at the navel level for women
- Hip (women only): At the widest point of the hips
Skinfold Measurements
- Chest: Diagonal fold halfway between armpit and nipple (men only)
- Abdominal: Vertical fold 2cm to the right of the navel
- Thigh: Vertical fold on front of thigh midway between knee and hip
- Tricep: Vertical fold on back of arm halfway between shoulder and elbow
- Suprailiac: Diagonal fold above iliac crest (hip bone)
Tips for Accuracy
- Take measurements in the morning before eating
- Use a flexible, non-stretchable measuring tape
- For skinfolds, take 2-3 measurements at each site and average them
